WWWootton Wooed Away by Independent Platform
Wednesday 6 March, 2024
Yesterday, Dan Wootton revealed on X.com (previously known as Twitter) that he has left GB News to start his own independent online platform, Dan Wootton Outspoken. Wootton has opted to use a domain name that precisely matches his new brand: danwoottonoutspoken.com. However, as of now, he doesn't seem to own the shorter domain danwootton.com, which is currently listed for sale. The asking price on the Godaddy owned marketplace is $27,500.00, which is around £21,650.00.
The website address www.danwoottonoutspoken.com directs users to a Substack page, a service enabling writers and creators to issue newsletters and cultivate a subscriber-based following. However, accessing danwoottonoutspoken.com without the "www" prefix leads to a page displaying a "Forbidden" message, indicating that permission to access the server is denied.
Noteworthy presenters from linear broadcast news channels who have transitioned to online platforms include Tucker Carlson, who uses his own domain name, tuckercarlson.com, for his online presence. In contrast, Piers Morgan doesn't seem to own piersmorgan.com, as it directs to a placeholder page managed by the domain registrar 123-Reg.
It's uncertain if Wootton's decision to bypass the shorter danwootton.com domain will prove to be a misstep. DomainCrawls consulted two industry experts who both expressed skepticism about the wisdom of not investing just under £22,000.00 for danwootton.com, a domain registered only 211 days ago on August 7, 2023. They suggested that negotiating with the current owner or considering arbitration through the UDRP might be prudent approaches.
